Abstract
One of the major roles of law enforcement officers is to ensure that the citizens are safe twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week. Police officers risk their lives while on and off duty. In this respect, therefore, many people pursue the career of becoming police officers knowing the risks well because they feel that they have a moral obligation to protect and serve. It is good to acknowledge that a police officer is obliged to protect people and protect property. Other responsibilities are those police officers are sometimes required to testify in court regarding situations they may have witnessed or personally handled. Therefore, police officers are required to investigate crimes in their areas of jurisdiction. Because they have to carry their investigations well, police officers must possess a good perception, leadership skills, and judgment (Mooney, 2019). In instances where culprits may harm members of the public or people breaking the law, police officers have moral authority and responsibilities to ensure all persons' safety. While doing investigations, officers must ensure that the person being investigated is not aware. But on the contrary, officers may be required to incorporate other people to get to the bottom of their investigations. Means necessary may be used, including setting discrete cameras and setting bugs all to arrest a lawbreaker. In this case, therefore, the means used were just part of the procedure. The ethical and legal conduct of law enforcement officials dictates that they must at all times fulfill the duties enacted on them by law (Dahl, 1952). Therefore, they must serve the community by protecting all persons against illegal acts and be highly responsible.
