Abstract

HR Legislation Assignment: Civil Right Act of 1997 Various HR legislations govern and protect American employees. However, the Civil Rights Act is an interesting and important law as it considers most areas that limit the realization and enjoyment of the American dream for most Americans based on discrimination. All Americans deserve equal opportunities in all areas of life to successfully realize the American dream. However, equality in employment remains hampered by discrimination in relation to race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, and disability. For such reasons, many talented American citizens remain wasted throughout their lives or subjected to humiliation in the job-related environment resulting in the involvement of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to ensure justice for all regardless of natural differences. Civil Rights Act of 1997 is an HR legislation that prohibits discrimination in employment based on race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, and disability. The law is very definite on federal preferences, contracts, and programs as it prohibits encouraging or requiring any federal subcontract or contract to discriminate or grant preference. For this reason, this law stands for equality in employment for all without any form of discrimination whatsoever, thus making it the most superior in fights against inequality which, if well respected, can lead qualified Americans to positions most deserved. In the video "Americans with Disability Act," it is evident that the signing of the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) by President George Bush in the mid-90s aimed at enlightening the world on the relevance of respecting the Civil Rights Act of 1997 (0:10-33). The signing of the ADA resulted from serious discrimination against disabled Americans in employment, among other areas of relevance within human life, like transportation and social inclusion. For this reason, ADA ensured the shameful wall of exclusion came trembling down, arguing that even the disabled had the right to enjoy the American dream through civil rights protections (2:39-45).
