Abstract

Research Proposal: The Anti-Vaccination Movement [Name] ENG 1301 4WO21 [Name] 16/09/2025 Research Proposal: The Anti-Vaccination Movement Vaccines are one of the most studied areas in medicine and public health since they have significant benefits to the global population. Through research, professionals in the field have developed vaccines for diseases that have had devastating effects in the past. My research topic is the anti-vaccination movement’s argument and the potential damage they have to the health of other people. I chose the topic since it is one of the most concerning trends I have encountered on mainstream and social media. There are different kinds of information derived from pseudoscience that have successfully influenced the public perception on vaccines (Evrony & Caplan, 2017). While the anti-vaccination movement has published numerous pieces of information discouraging parents from vaccinating their children, proponents of vaccines have limited reach. Parents are genuinely concerned and confused by the conflicting data available on the internet and social media about the benefits, dangers, and effectiveness of vaccines. The potential dangers of the anti-vaccination movement on public health is a cause for concern for professionals and administrators in the healthcare sector since they have a mandate to respond to misinformation on the subject. Researching the effect of the anti-vaccination movement is critical since their arguments have misled parents on how vaccines affect children’s health. Over the past decade, the movement has gained significant influence by investing resources and using social media to fuel their agenda. The number of unvaccinated children in the United States has quadrupled since the beginning of the century as a result of the conflicting data the movement uses to fuel their agenda. Researching the topic is important since the findings will show the goals of the movement and how it has successfully influenced the public perception on vaccinations. The anti-vaccination movement has presented itself as a freedom advocacy group that intends to give parents the right to decide if they want to vaccinate their children. However, it has devastating effects since misinformation misleads the population that would benefit the most from vaccines. The findings from the research will demonstrate how public health organizations and professionals should respond to the misinformation caused by the anti-vaccination movement and the effects on health. My topic of interest has various relevant areas on how the movement affects public health outcomes for vulnerable population. It is necessary to establish the beginning of the movement and factors that have contributed to its growth over the past decade. Determining the role of public action committees (PACs), powerful organizations, politicians, and activists in the movement will show the cause for its progression (DiRusso & Stansberry, 2022). When researching the topic, it is necessary to establish the types of information the movement has used to achieve its agenda in the United States. Questionable research has linked vaccinations to health problems including autism that have been the core talking point for activists in the...
