Abstract

Managing Resistance to change at Pinyin Foods (Outline) Challenges facing management when dealing with resistance to change Pinyin Food management's various challenges in dealing with the strong opposition to change as expressed by the organizations' employees (Case Study) as outlined below. A poor relation with staff- Coordination of Pinyin and Pig R US staff is not defined, making ties and engagements of such employees quite impractical. Poor communication skills- VMI managers’ abilities to communicate the benefits and risks associated with the introduced change remain in question, which calls for considerations. For this reason, effective communication on exciting and challenging tasks to workers as attributed to the new change must remain defined on workers to enable them to change their negative attitude towards automation change at VMI. Poor skills in managing internal politics- Pinyin managers fail to express any ability to change workers' attitude towards the rumor regarding the anticipated outcomes of the change. Employees fear that the change might cost them their jobs, might compromise the quality of the organizations' products, might lead to losing the southern culture, among other fears that the managers have failed to address for clarification on the concerned persons. Poor training skills- To overcome the southern culture, VMI management must ensure workers receive the proper training on structural, behavioral, and technological strategies implemented to allow them to understand the relevance of automating VMI operations. Such achievements will enable workers not to feel like the change is claiming their services/value at Pinyin foods. Recommendations on how management should handle resistance to change at Pinyin Foods Painting a big picture- VMI management should paint a big picture on workers' minds regarding the change benefits to the organization and workers in general. By painting a big picture, the managers must express abilities in defining the benefits of the change, the challenges that the change might bring, and formulate/suggest best remedies to such changes to minimize fears amongst employees on the damage that automation might cost their working life. Defined communication skills abilities- Effective communication and engagement of all employees among other parties involved at Pinyin food are vital to overcoming the strong resistance to change that such parties have expressed (Case study). Managers should determine what is best to tell VMI employees, at what time, and how to communicate their message regarding the anticipated outcome of the new change to enhance a positive attitude towards change. Defined abilities in enforcing the recommended OD interventions- Incorporating structural, technological, and behavioral intervention strategies allows for practical realization of success in managing change resistance.
