Social Policy Discussion Question one I believe that social policy is a set of principles, laws, guidelines, or principles primarily concerned with how societies meet human needs. Among the human needs that social policy addresses include education, work, health, security, and well-being, among other factors that affect the living conditions conducive to human welfare. Basically, social policy enhances proper analysis of different roles of the government, civil society, and family, among other sectors that define societal responsibilities to ensure the provision of support and services across human life from childhood to adulthood. Therefore, social policy can be described as legislation eliminating inequalities in access to services and support, especially between social groups that become defined by social status, race, ethnicity, age, and other factors. Question Two The social policy is like a pillar to social equality amongst all humans, proves relevance, and has a huge impact on human life. I feel that social policy defines the way societies worldwide meet human needs. For this reason, I can argue that, with a good social policy, I can enjoy a life full of privileges entitled to human life like education, health, work, security, among other things that define human well-being and vice versa. On the other hand, some social policies may define laws governing marriages, divorce, contraception, abortion, and other family-related matters, making my life miserable, especially when they are contrary to my expectations. However, it is imperative to acknowledge that social policy allows humans to understand social problems in their society, their causes, and their governments' steps to ensure solutions to the issues noted. Question Three The most important social policy in the United States is the social security policy, a great program run by the federal government. The social security policy uses taxes paid by the American citizens into a trust fund to provide benefits to people who prove most eligible. I feel this policy is among the most important in America since it provides people with an income upon hitting retirement age and if one cannot work due to disability. It is a policy that supports the family members (spouse, children, or parents) of the beneficiary in case of death, which means that such people will enjoy the benefits of their family member even in their absence. It is a policy that makes the lives of many old aged and disabled people bearable regardless of their inabilities to work.
