It also involves all the activities carried out to enhance the business's productivity; hence in small businesses, sole proprietors are solely responsible for all the losses and profits incurred when operating their businesses. As a result, they embrace proper business management by tracking cash flows and bank accounts. Proper accounting is necessary because it helps them analyze and make records and reports of financial activities, especially when they buy stock from their suppliers or any expenses incurred in the business (Williams Jr et al., 2020). Accounting helps them evade getting bankrupt. Establishing strategic plans and goals is also an essential business management activity. Other activities involve customer services, which help establish customer relationships, sales management, product development, and market research, which help business managers clearly understand their customer needs, the available market trends, and competition in the existing market. A funeral service practitioner is an individual who takes part in adequate planning and proper allocation of resources of a funeral home and management of staff. They also participate in marketing and public relations, which help them manage the grief of the families of the deceased. Funeral service practitioners need to learn small business management because they acquire the basic concepts required in their day-to-day work through the knowledge gained. Their expertise is primarily based on taking up management responsibilities; hence, a proper understanding of small business management effectively enhances and facilitates their productivity (Burrell & Selman, 2022).
