Governor Profile (Rick Perry) Governor: Rick Perry Party: Republican Government positions held before becoming Governor United States Secretary of Energy (2017-2019) Captain in the United States Airforce (1972-1977) Democratic Member of the Texas House of Representatives (1985-1991) Agriculture Commissioner of Texas (1990) Lieutenant Governor of Texas (1998) Personal Information: Date of Birth: March 4, 1950 Birthplace: [City, State] [University] [Name] Rick Perry assumed the office of Governor on December 21, 2000. This was after George W Bush's resignation, who was to take office as the president of the United States. He won rightfully after campaigning in the 2002 Gubernatorial election by 58% against his opponents, 40%. Rick Perry (Republican); 2,632,591 (57.8%) Tony Sanchez (Democrat); 1,819,798 (40.0%) Years of Service as Governor (2000-2015). He was the first Governor in the U.S to be elected three four- year terms. Constitution; Article 4 Sec 3a & sec 16 discusses the Governor's election and in cases of vacancies. Vetoes Governor Pick Perry vetoed the Equal pay bill. The bill allowed women suffering from wage discrimination to take legal action in the U.S. courts to receive justice. The Former Texas governor alleged that the bill duplicates the federal law; this law allows employees to claim legal action from the United States Employment Opportunity Commission. He further argued out that the bill creates too much legislation and inhibits the creation of jobs. Article 4 (Section 14) Discusses the gubernatorial veto. This section discusses that every bill that shall have passed both legislative houses shall be presented to the Governor for approval. If he approves, he shall sign it. If disapproved, it is returned with objections to the house it originated from. Rick Perry Speech Summary (Opening of the Arctic Circle). When in office as U.S. Secretary of Energy, he gave an opening speech of the 2019 Arctic Circle Assembly in Iceland. In his speech, he acknowledges the Arctic region with its eminent economics and energy potential due to its large undiscovered gas and oil reserves. He claims that the Arctic region when energy is reasonably explored for Arctic people and the whole world. He applauds the Arctic State of Alaska as beautifully endowed with natural resources. He lamented that the U.S. is opening Alaska for responsible energy development and research for methane hydrates. He acknowledges Senator for Alaska's commitment to foster energy for the benefit of the United States. He claims America is the second greatest generator of wind and solar energy in the world. Rick Perry argues that the U.S. has set its eyes on the study of arctic climate, making it the largest science climate expedition in the Arctic region's history to achieve energy progress. Rick also talked about greenhouse gases. He lamented that the United States has an emission of gases fall dramatically from 2005 to 2018, and he needs the world to emulate them in curbing climate. Growing the economy goes hand in hand with environmental Rick Perry believes in the power of innovation as the key indicator of energy, environmental, and economic progress. He also claims that energy can be produced more abundantly, cleanly, efficiently, and more affordably through innovation. He also talked about the geopolitical competition; he talks of countries who are trying to dominate the Arctic region from the outside.
