Abstract

Goal 1. Reduce Juvenile Delinquency a.) Reduce Crime Rates-The high crime rate among youth requires a multi-pronged approach. The Wrap-Around Community Center at large is intended to circumvent the limited choices and bad circumstances that can lead to choices that contribute to the alarming rates. With youth engagement in productive and physical activities and support from the offices and programs involved, as well as community development, juvenile crime may lower in frequency. Additionally, the hope is to see a 10% reduction in juvenile crime rates by the end of the first year. b.) Rehabilitation of Juvenile Offenders- Rehabilitation is the process of restoring someone’s physical and mental health to normalcy through training and therapy, and the Wrap-Around Community Center will provide not only the facility but also the activities to promote such rehabilitation of the city’s youth. By applying the concepts of tutors, sports, and mentorship the rehabilitation of youth is achievable through direct contact which will be available throughout the day. These programs will have respectable adults who will be in constant contact with the youth that will present role models for them to follow. c.) Awareness and Prevention- The Boys and Girls Club moto is “A Positive Place for Kids.” We have teen leadership programs such as Leaders In Training and Keystone which promotes job training skills, resume writing, career exploration, life skills, and community service projects. Additionally, the Delinquency Intervention Program focuses on anger management, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills. The recreation areas such as the outdoor sports park, skatepark, and indoor basketball courts provide a positive place that youth can spend time with their friends in a safe and nurturing environment, These programs are built to mentor and encourage positive growth in our youth creating awareness of how they affect their community and prevention of any further delinquency. Types of Data: 1a.) Crime rate reports across the county, but with Citrus Bend being the primary guide. 1b.) Number of youths that city records show have a history of criminal offenses, broken down into categories that pinpoint specific offenses. Each offense will require a different approach of rehabilitation so it is imperative that all data is collected and correlated to give accurate representation, so that individuals can be placed in the right program. 1c.) The City and County measure delinquency rates that we will rely on for program evaluation. A decrease in rates will prove our community center has made an impact on Citrus Bend. Collection: 1a.) The P.C.S.O. will collect the data, in conjunction with assistance from the city police departments. Data will be pulled quarterly to monitor changes and patterns. 1b.) The P.C.S.O. will collect the appropriate data from each city within the county on a quarterly basis. This data will be categorized by professionals within the Bright Academy, Panther County Drug Court, and the DJJ so that all avenues and criteria are recorded. 1c.) The police department will collect the data from the crime rates they collect. Accessing Data & Data Use: 1a.) Crime rates will be assessed for indications of fluctuation from quarter to quarter and in different areas, as well as changes in the types of crimes. The P.C.S.O.
