Course name Instructor’s name Assignment due date Article Review Using the Scientific Method The title of the article I chose for the study was, “Disparities in lung cancer: a targeted literature review examining lung cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment, and survival outcomes in the United States.” The research seeks to determine how lung cancer affects racially marginalized communities in the United States differently from the general population. The sources of the article were research on lung cancer conducted in the United States between January 2018 and November 2021 showing how the progression of the illness affects the population. The article brings up the issue of racial inequality in health in the United States and how it affects people from different communities (Dwyer et al., 2024). Using lung cancer as the focus illness, the article uses targeted literature review to determine how patients from marginalized communities are affected differently by lung cancer compared to White patients. It examines the implications on policy on care delivery on health equity in the United States and potential solutions to existing challenges. According to the article, racially marginalized communities are affected differently by lung cancer compared to White patients. Black patients develop lung cancer early in age and are less likely to access screening and testing services to facilitate early intervention. Black patients are less likely to access more effective costly services that would improve their health outcomes during cancer treatment. I would like to educate my fellow students on the impact of health disparities on patients with lung cancer and the need for policy action to improve health outcomes.
