Fulfilling a Passion for Child Welfare: My Journey in Social Work

Abstract

Personal Narrative Aligning my values, philosophy, knowledge of social issues and professional and community experience with social work profession is of great relevance in enhancing success and a fulfilling career in child care field. Dealing with children is both exciting and demanding thus the need to have a big heart of love and tenderness. Unlike adults that can understand what it takes to be in a certain situation, children have no such potentials thus dealing with them demands special attention and focus to help them understand the meaning of their current situations as well as making them understand their worth and life purpose regardless of any situation. Love surpasses all other virtues as through love every situation becomes interesting thus attending children with love makes my social engagements with them lively, fun and impactful. It is through love that I am able to remain at ease while dealing with children making them feel comfortable and ready to face life with vigour and optimism. My love for kids helps me relate with them just like one of them and with such an approach I am able to get a lot from them which in return help me understand the most appropriate strategies to employ to help them and make them feel better in their lives. Working with kids requires resilience and patience and this is a professionalism I have mastered during my work experience. Although it is not wise to blow own trumpet, I believe I am very patient and resilient and such potentials have been confirmed by many people who have confirmed to my face that I am a very empathetic person that fits well as a social worker. Social work demands better understanding and empathy for the challenges that individuals as well as the community faces. In my line of interest within the field of social work which is dealing with kids, such values means a lot as they resonate with a commitment to help these vulnerable children. It is through the empathetic nature that one is able to connect with such children emotionally which in return strengthens ones attitude in this line of social work. Being empathetic makes me have a sense of understanding thus always patient with children to understand how best I can change their current situations and make them enjoy life. It is imperative to note that children demands a lot of attention thus with limited patience with them, one cannot deliver in social work. To this effect, I just thank God for equipping me with this virtue as through it I see children challenges from a very positive perspective making it possible to deliver in helping them in the long-run.
