Abstract
Letter of Advice Dear Mom to Be I am happy about your decision to become a parent. I feel honored for giving me a chance to offer you my advice on pregnancy experiences from prenatal through childhood. It will be my pleasure to take you through this tough, challenging, but exciting and enjoyable journey that awaits you. During pregnancy, there comes a time when one experiences some prenatal risk issues like maternal infections and fetal macrosomia, which makes the journey quite boring and challenging. However, the journey proves exciting as the anxiety to receive the new human inside one's womb increases with each passing day. To maintain a healthy pregnancy, I would like to take you through the three stages of prenatal development with clear tips on what remains expected of you in each step. I hope my advice will be a strong pillar to kick starts your parenting journey. Pregnancy is a long process with ups and downs from the first day of conception until the last day of delivery. However, to enhance a healthy prenatal development, it is essential to talk to a doctor about any health problems you may have at current or have had in the past before pregnancy. I will speak to you from my past experiences, having celebrated my sixth child's third birthday last month. There is a range of issues that one encounters during prenatal development. A maternal infection proves the most prenatal problem that most pregnant women experience from early pregnancy through the late stage. Maternal infection proves a common occurrence during pregnancy which causes a substantial impact on the infant. Though the baby remains protected from many illnesses like common flu or a passing stomach bug, some severe infections prove harmful to the expectant mothers and the baby. Some maternal infections like cytomegalovirus infections, rubella, toxoplasmosis, and others result in impaired development in the uterus or even death of the fetus. However, most infections, especially those that cause abnormal vagina discharges like UTIs and skin and respiratory tract infections, come from poor hygiene and poor diets. For this reason, the need to maintain good hygiene and eat a balanced diet throughout the pregnancy period is essential. Fetal macrosomia is another prenatal issue that proves risky during prenatal development. Fetal macrosomia happens when a baby grows overly large in the womb than the average. It is a condition that mostly comes from maternal diabetes, weight gain, or obesity during pregnancy. However, in rare, the unborn baby might also have a rare medical condition that affects its fetal development leading to macrosomia. Eating a balanced diet, maintaining a healthy weight and losing weight if overweight before conception, avoiding alcohol/smoking, and proper diabetes management if you have it prove as the major ways of preventing macrosomia. It is an experience that brings discomfort to the mother and the fetus, thus the need to exercise means of avoiding it throughout pregnancy. Other common prenatal issues include Hyperemesis Gravidarum, obesity and weight gain, diabetes, hypertension, and anemia. It is good to note that it is normal to experience morning sicknesses like nausea and vomiting, mostly during the first trimester (0-3 months). The rapidly rising blood levels of the Human Chorionic Gonadotropin hormone (HCG) cause nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. However, Hyperemesis Gravidarum occurs when severe, persistent morning sickness leads to dehydration and weight loss; thus, one needs to seek medical attention. Obesity and weight gain mostly happen due to bad diets and, in some cases, hormonal imbalance. Proper diet proves essential in preventing such an issue, but it is wise to seek medical attention in case of persistency. High blood pressure is a prenatal condition that exposes both the mother and the unborn baby at risk for problems. Hypertension comes from stress during pregnancy, among other hormonal imbalance-related factors increasing maternal complications like placenta abruption (the placenta separates from the wall of the uterus) and gestational diabetes. Having well-controlled blood pressure is essential in maintaining healthy blood pressure for healthy prenatal development. There are other rare prenatal issues, but I believe having touched on the most experienced matters, you will have a clear path to a safe and healthy prenatal preparedness. I wish to divert my attention to prenatal development stages and what you require to ensure a healthy and successful prenatal journey. One can...
