Balancing Warrior and Guardian Mindsets: The Effective Police Officer

Abstract

Module 2 Discussion: Perspectives and Mindsets in Policing What Makes an Effective Police Officer? While analysing both the warrior and guardian perspectives in policing, it is open that an effective police officer must express defined abilities in maintaining soldiers and police missions while in line of duty. A soldier’s mission is to conquer while a police mission is to protect making a simple combination of a warrior-guardian mindset while acting as a police officer. With such a mindset, such a police is able to embrace a community-based-perception while dealing with societal issues as well as maintain professionalism grounded on the set warrior missions. If a police is able to make and maintain a strong relationship with the community directed to serve, it becomes very easy to understand the prevailing problems within such environments and best approaches to address them through a collective responsibility. Winning is not only the main aspect that defines a police officer’s abilities. On the contrary, such an officer’s ability to win collectively through engagements with the served targets is the key to defining an effective law enforcer. If a police officer fails to maintain a balance between the warrior missions and the guardian mission, there results to a problem as the society might define such an officer as self-centred, dictatorial and inconsiderate only directed to confirming the powers vested in him/her.
