Abstract

Photosynthesis II – Data Analysis [University] City and state Date Introduction Research shows that the Pinto bean requires soil, water, and sunlight to grow. Pinto plants are unable to tolerate cold and damp weather conditions and require sunlight exposure of more than six hours per day (Nelson et al, 2006). Light is therefore a vital factor in the germination and the overall growth of a pinto plant. Previous studies have mostly focused on the effect of water and salinity on the overall growth of pinto beans. However, very few experiments have assessed the effect of the type of light on the germination of the light wavelength pinto plants. Therefore, this study seeks to determine whether the light wavelength affects bean sprouting success, speed, and the overall growth rate. Methods This experiment was conducted in two treatments. In the first treatment, the pinto beans were exposed to white light. In the second treatment, the pinto beans were exposed to green light. The sample size was 4 for each treatment. Therefore, treatment 1 had four white pots labelled, W1, W2, W3, and W4. Treatment 2 had four green pots labelled G1, G2, G3 and G4. The data was then recorded for 21 days, on the length of beans sprouted in centimetres. The data recorded was restricted to a maximum of 4 for the number of visible sprouts each day. Results The data analysis results are summarized below in form of figures and tables. Table 1: A Table Showing the Average Sprout Height of the 8 Plants. Table 1 shows that the average height for white pot 1, white pot 2, white pot 3, and white pot 4 were 2.94, 3.22, 4.97, and 6.48 respectively. The average heights for the green pots were 2.15, 2.29, 4.81, and 5.69. Table 2: A...
