Abstract
Learning and Unlearning Behavior: Procrastination [Name] [University] 26th September 2023 Most people in their lives have experienced procrastination. Procrastination is a very detrimental habit that has cost my lifestyle. This habit has become innate despite trying to complete my tasks and duties on time. I have a tendency to miss deadlines, delay tasks intentionally, and have difficulty managing time.it has made lose motivation, cultivated stress, and lowered my self-esteem. Procrastination is deeply ingrained in my schedule but difficult to eliminate. Many times, I have sworn to write diaries and keep journals but I keep postponing without any meaningful achievement. I like writing articles about my personal life and everyday experiences but it has become a burden to me. With procrastination doing tasks is uncomfortable and I’d rather stay in bed and postpone my duties. Procrastination has made me lose opportunities and money. I end up doing everything at once in the last minute when frustrated, stressed, and angry myself. Unlearning procrastination has become very difficult yet it is something I do it every day. I acquired procrastination through operant conditioning. Operant condition explains why procrastination is difficult to eliminate. Our brains are designed to seek pleasure ad avoid pain. The more we avoid unpleasant things, the more we want to avoid. The operant conditioning was discovered by the philosopher B.F. Skinner in the 1950s who asserted that the consequences of current behavior impact future behavior. For instance, if our actions are followed by something good, we are more likely to do it again. Social media is very addictive and sometimes I procrastinate during my duties at the expense of delving in social media.
