It includes the physical location which can be a home office, an office building, or a factory (Salin, 2021). Additionally, the workplace overview describes the culture of the workplace and its effects on how employees in a company are expected to accomplish various tasks. Employers can improve the experiences and productivity of their employees by addressing the issues in their workplace overview. On the other hand, the functional areas of an organization are the groups in which employees perform their responsibilities towards meeting the overall goals of an organization. They divide the staff into groups each tasked with specific responsibilities in the organization. The functional areas in my organization include sales and marketing whose responsibility is to interact with consumers and potential buyers and promote the company’s services. Additionally, there is a finance department that keeps record of the organization’s income, expenditure, and future prospects. The human resource department is in charge of the staffing the company with capable, trained, and experienced employees to meet the consumers’ needs. The daily activities at Lending Tree Bowl, particularly during games, are handled by the operations area that manages key activities responsible in delivering services to consumers (Pouwelse, Mulder, & Mikkelsen, 2021). The company has an area dedicated to the procurement and maintenance of equipment and technology to ensure the firm remains competitive in the market. I am in the sales and marketing functional area that has the most significant interaction with the potential and current consumers in the organization. With the growing use of social media, this functional area has invested in monitoring the organization’s performance in this area. Marketing produces internal and external communication regarding brand promotion and performance in the organization. The department conducts campaigns on behalf of the organization to promote the services offered to the customers. Job Description A job description is the document provided to potential employees in an organization indicating the duties and responsibilities associated with the position they seek in the firm. It provides the applicants with the knowledge of the general activities they are expected to conduct if employed in the firm (Chongwony, Gardner, & Tope, 2020). While the day to day tasks may differ, the job description indicates the overall duties that en employee may expect to conduct while working in the company. As a marketing intern, my job description includes the list of responsibilities an employee may have concerning the promotion of the firm’s brand. My duties are associated with working hand in hand with the marketing manager to promote the company’s brand and the profits. Specifically, the job description includes organizing presentations to the guests visiting the organization and planning to spend time in the facility. Additionally, this includes assisting the marketing department with promotional activities both through direct interaction with guests and over online media (Chongwony, Gardner, & Tope, 2020). Marketing interns collect and analyze questionnaires from customers and employees to determine the performance of new services in the organization. Moreover, they make recommendations to the company through marketing managers on the measures that could be employed by the organization to increase profitability. In my organization, my responsibilities include promotion activities for the company’s services. In particular, I have been introduced to the use of social media in marketing and targeting new customers for the company. The organization has invested in creating a social media platform through which potential guests can consult on the services offered. I work with other employees in the marketing area including the department manager to improve the profile of the organization on social media platforms. Staffing/Hiring/ Training/ Scheduling/ Turnover Staffing Staffing is the process through which companies hire eligible and equipped candidates to fill the vacancies and specific positions in the organization. Staffing includes the activities through which the organization evaluates the skills, experience, and knowledge of potential candidates to perform roles in the organization. Moreover staffing requires the company to evaluate the positions in the organizations and align them with the process of acquiring employees (Papay & Kraft, 2016). Each functional area must be allocated employees based on its requirements for workers and the number of employees needed. It is critical that the company places the appropriate individual at the position that meets their qualification. Through staffing, the company is able to optimize its use of human resource and consequently the cost of offering services to consumers. My functional area composed of marketing assistants and interns working under the marketing manager in the organization. The company’s introduction of technology in marketing and the growing use of social media to promote its services had increased the responsibilities for my functional area. However, the company was keeping up with the changes in marketing activities by hiring new members in the department (Papay & Kraft, 2016). Most of the marketing interns have adjusted to these developments in the use of technology in marketing activities in the firm. The staffing has been aligned with the company’s need to improve performance in marketing to meet the stakeholders’ expectations and the company’s goals. I would recommend that the company hires more employees with the Hiring Hiring is the process through which organizations find, evaluate, and develop a relationship with individuals who become employees, consultants, independent contractors, and potential interns in the future. Through the hiring process, organizations establish as criteria that can be used to identify and evaluate the capacity of individuals to become members of staff in the organization (Mozael, 2015). Companies use different methods to recruit individuals to various positions based on the policies at the firm. For instance, some organizations focus on hiring internally by identifying the people within the company who have the skills to occupy various positions in the company. Such companies reduce the cost and time taken to recruit employees. Additionally, hiring internally motivates the employees to gain the skills, knowledge, and experience required to hold top positions in the company. On the other hand, relying too much on internal hiring may fail to bring in new skills from the vast market of potential candidates outside the company. Some organizations prefer to hire manager externally and increase the field of potential candidates with a wider range of options for the company. External hiring can provide the organization with the employees who are more skilled and have experience working in different companies. These individuals can introduce new ideas in the company and promote the firm’s performance. The marketing department at Lending Tree Bowl combines internal and external hiring to provide the company with the most talented and skilled members to join the workforce (Papay & Kraft, 2016). Most of the employees in the department have worked in other positions in the firm before being promoted to hold managerial jobs. Work experience plays a critical role in the marketing sector and the current members of the company have demonstrated their knowledge in the field. External hiring has allowed the firm to introduce new ideas in the firm especially concerning online advertising and monitoring the social media presence of the company. Training Employee training is the process through which organizations organize and carry out programs that improve employee skills and the capacity of workers to undertake their skills. Companies use different methods and strategies to offer employee training in the workplace. Professional training may be offered to the new employees joining the company especially when there are procedures specific to the company that they have to follow. This type of training is organized and offered within the company to each new member of staff to ensure they are in line with the local aspects of the company (Mozael, 2015). On the other hand, some companies organize regular informal discussions that help managers become better leaders in the organization. Interactions between top and middle-level managers aim at improving how they accomplish their responsibilities. Additionally, some of the training activities may be aimed at aligning the employees with the changes in the firm such as the use of new equipment or technology. Each department at Lending Tree Bowl has a program through which new employees including interns receive training. As an intern, I was assigned to work under a marketing assistant who has provided me with key information about the essential aspects of performance in the department (Mozael, 2015). The employees are offered opportunities to work closely with other members of the organization to ensure that they are in line with the values of the firm. Training is performed in groups of new employees and continued through interpersonal interactions between the new employees and experienced staff members. Scheduling Scheduling is the process through which organization assess the nature of the workload and make arrangement to optimize the production and delivery of services to the consumers with the maximum efficiency. Through scheduling, the managers determine the amount of human resource required to complete each task and manage operations in every department. Firms then make a plan that allows the most efficient use of human resource to carry out tasks and responsibilities in the firm (Ağralı et al., 2017). Scheduling ensures that organizations are able to achieve and accomplish their goals within the allocated timeline. Additionally, proper scheduling is critical in ensuring efficiency in the utilization of other resources in the company.
