Personal Financial Statements Reflection [Name] Personal Financial Statements Reflection The personal balance sheet and income statement provide critical insights on personal financial wellbeing and could indicate areas of improvement in saving and spending. From the completed templates, I was able to see the areas of personal expenditure that have a significant impact on my financial wellbeing. In particular, the monthly breakdown of expenditure showed the aspects of financial spending that I could change to increase my annual income. While some aspects of expenditure such as auto loan, mortgage, and utilities are hard to change, reductions in entertainment and gifts would significantly increase the total net income. I spent more than $15,500 in these two areas and I feel that minor changes in spending choices would have significant effects on my net income and savings. Despite my income from wages, monthly stipend from my family, and gifts, my net income for the year was quite low as a result of high expenditure. The personal financial statements shed light on the potential areas of improvement and areas that could be harder to change to improve my financial wellbeing. I intend to use the information from the statements to improve my planning on expenditure, repaying my long-term debts, and saving for the future expenses. A key concept from the personal balance sheet and financial statement is the significance of the short-term and long-term areas of the balance sheet. Assets and liabilities are indicators of an individual’s financial position. Characterizing assets and liabilities as either short-term or long-term facilitates calculations to determine the individual’s capacity to pay their debts and account for emergencies. The short-term assets and liabilities indicate that I could cover a significant emergency cost or take advantage of an investment opportunity without significantly affecting my solvency.
