Abstract
Discussion: Analysis of Motorola Global Marketing Failure and Decline One can argue Motorola as a company that once dominated the mobile phone industry. However, it experienced a failure and also a decline in its global marketing efforts following some factors attributed to its marketing strategies and global marketing environment. While analyzing Motorola failure from the global marketing point of view, it is open that the company expresses limited abilities to effectively adapt its marketing strategies to the global markets. What does this imply? Motorola failed to understand the changing market preferences thus unable to satisfy the diverse needs and preferences of its diversified customers. To this effect, Motorola’s marketing mix lacked uniqueness/competitiveness in the global market in that its mobile phone products lacked a differentiating characteristic limiting its sales and acceptance from the target customers. It is also open that with a poor marketing mix, Motorola’s products may have lacked competitive pricing, efficient distribution and effective promotional campaigns that offer a product a potential competitive edge. According to Green & Keegan (2020), competitive advantage defines the uniqueness of a brand which failed Motorola due to the intense competition it experienced from other phone companies like Apple that managed to offer high-tech phones that proved innovative and appealing to the target markets. Looking at product/market expansion framework, it is open that Motorola failed to successfully expand into diverse markets and also to adapt its products to suit different preferences thus leading to its failure. One may attribute such failure poor market research thus failing to understand customers’ needs which would have advised its product production.
