We have shifted from a more traditional approach, in which the company success was of central importance, to an evolved approach where the employee’s success is held to a position of importance. Through research in workplace psychology, we have learned that having a happy, loyal employees can have great benefits on the success of the company. In these ways, companies have developed a variety of working opportunities to provide better working situation for their employees, thus providing more opportunities for growth within their companies. Technology has also grown tremendously in the past 20 years to make these new working opportunities available to employees and has eliminated many jobs that can now be done with technology. Technology in the workplace is the single most important change impacting people at work. Technology has allowed companies to maintain workflow while still allowing their employees to work remotely. It has also lessened the load on human labor over the years as we continue to rely more and more on heavy machinery and technology to produce products. Negative effects of technology can also significantly impact in individual’s hiring process and maintain of a job. Today, people must ensure that they have social media accounts that will not reflect negatively onto their desired profession. Employees can easily be fired, or let go, if they make posts that reflect negatively onto the company. Hiring officials at a company have the ability to search you up on social media and make assumption about your lifestyle choices. These types of searches were not available to hiring official only 20 years ago. The impact that technology has on a person in the workplace is undeniable and has changed significantly within current history.
