Abstract
[Instructor Name] Dr. Death is a shocking podcast that highlights the outcomes/consequences of professional negligence to the patients and the medical practitioner. The main issue within this podcast is medical malpractice, whereby medical professionals ignore their contributions to enhancing patients' well-being. It is a series that exemplifies some of the major challenges in patient safety. When one talks of patientsβ safety, it is imperative to note that the term involves prevention and reduction of risks, errors, and harm that may occur to patients while providing healthcare. Unfortunately, such considerations are given little to no attention by healthcare providers expressed in the Dr. Death podcast. Though a series of episodes, it is clear that Dr. Death expresses healthcare providers whose urge to enhance patient safety remains questioned by either bragging, instilling fears in patients, or wrong diagnoses and treatments worsening patient conditions. Christopher Duntsch is the medical practitioner Dr. Death podcast pays significant attention to as this negligent neurosurgeon experienced life in prison sentence for his widespread medical malpractice. Besides the life in a prison sentence, this healthcare employee also lost his medical license for making patients lose their lives or experience severe health complications during his work. Based on the podcast, it is clear that Dr. Duntsch expresses charisma and confidence while addressing his patients but lacks humility and intelligence to enhance healthy communication with the patients. Duntsch is over-confident in his expertise, making the patients believe that the surgeries must be successful. To this effect, the patient remains afraid to ask questions as the Dr. brags about his knowledge, skills, and experience as a neurosurgeon. Unfortunately, things on the ground are contrary to this doctorβs assumption, rendering most patients a threat of losing their lives after unsuccessful surgeries. Dealing with an over-confident healthcare provider silences the patients, which is a threat as patients always believe that even in the most challenging situations; the doctor has the perfect solutions.
