It is concerned with various actions that meet customer demand forecasting customer demand over a planned period. Production planning helps determine the required resources linked to warehouse and workforce levels, overtime, and production rates to meet customer demands, production capacities, and processing times parameters (Djordjevic et al., 2019). These parameters are deterministic in nature for instance production planning uses linear optimization models with the objective to minimize production costs, inventory levels, payrolls, and overtime. Linear programming is the most developed tool used in management science that is concerned with the allocation of limited resources among competing activities and under a set of constraints imposed by the nature of the problem (Chaymae et al., 2022). This paper uses the automotive industry to evaluate process control and optimization production of automotive wire harnesses using linear programming. There are various factors that take place in the industry such as meeting deadlines, customer demands, required resources, internal management of workforce and resources, and improving quality. The automotive industry deployed linear programming in supply chain management. It helps in the allocation of scarce resources amid constraints in relation to finance, technology, marketing, and other organizational functions. The linear programming model’s objective in production planning is to minimize the total production costs in a planning horizon. These costs include; inventory, shortage, and production costs. Analyze the linear programming model used by the chosen Company. Did it work in their Favor? Would you recommend a different methodology? Customer demand keeps fluctuating and getting unstable hence companies use linear programming in production planning and scheduling to meet product compliance and quality and customer needs. The automotive company uses the classical linear programming model in its production planning. The objective of the company is to reduce the quality of the automotive wire harnesses to meet customer requirements and demand. The automotive industry uses this model employing capacity constraints and inventory balance equations. The capacity constraints ensure that the total workload for resources such as labor and machine does not exceed the required capacity in each period while the inventory balance equations for balancing inventory shortages with that of the previous production period, demand quantity, and production quantity (Chaymae et al., 2022).
