Enhancing Public-Police Trust: Addressing Racial Inequities for Safer Communities

Abstract

Are We Safer Response It would be unfair to ignore the changes made within the law enforcement departments especially the community-based approaches in policing aimed at enhancing public-police relationships by eliminating racist approaches (Hasbrouck, 1). However, there are still open loopholes that need address especially from the racial point of view. Until all Americans view each other as equal human regardless of color or race, then inequalities will remain as a dominating power especially in criminal justice related areas disrupting the peace of many American. Based on George Floyd killing from white law enforcers leading to public riots and unrests affecting all Americans live, it is clear that safety of Americans still remain a controversial issue that demand internal address before heading externally to eliminate racial approaches that bring unrests (Reny and Benjamin, 2). Unless racism becomes a thing of the past, the streets still remain unsafe regardless of how much people would wish to ignore this bitter fact. Fortunately, there are improvements on security areas and one cannot compare the current state of safety with the way it used to be ten years ago. There has not been major external attacks that one would define as a threat to Americans only for internal safety concerns that can become improved through corrective responsibilities from the law enforcers and the public through trust and loyalty among the two parties for a safer America at current and in the future.
