How the Department of Homeland Security Impacts American Safety

Abstract

Are We Safer Video “Are we Safer” is a video that offer clear insights on the origins of the formation of the Departments of Homeland Security that became effective following the 9/11 attacks. President George W. Bush merged 17 federal agencies to form this department to ensure creation of a usable and efficient early-warning system to prevent such attacks in the future. However based on the video, one can argue that although this department has managed in enhancing security on air, land and sea borders, there are still chances of insecurities hampering the peace of many Americans. Although there are no major alarms on terrorism cases as the borders are well protected, within American states, there are a lot of exposures to unsafe environments. Carjacking and kidnapping is not news with American neighbourhoods forcing many citizens live in fear within their own neighbourhoods. Police harassment is also a common trend with American cities enhancing insecurity especially to the target audiences in a great manner. Most people especially from racism live in fear not because there are no law enforcers to maintain their peace but because the some police have embraced inequality while delivering their services making America unsafe for many. Undeserved killing especially for the African American citizens have become the worst outcomes for police brutality and unequal treatment as they deliver to their roles which is portraying the unsafe internal environment experienced by many Americans.
