Abstract
[Name] [University] 16th August 2023 Should Humans use Identity Chips? (Rough Draft) Introduction The decision on whether to use or not use identity chips on humans is a controversial issue that revolves around embracing the advancing technology and respect for human autonomy. However, it is open that such advancements in technology have prompted the idea of incorporating these identity chips into the human experience to enhance human operations. Since identity chips are small microchips that must remain within the human body, they are aimed at retaining and transmitting personal information raising serious concerns about the appropriate balance of convenience, privacy and ethics. Supporters of this initiative argue that using identity chips on humans has the potential to revolutionize healthcare, expertise commerce and improve security while its criticizers argue against its potential in misapplication, spying and erosion of individual autonomy. Nevertheless, there is the need to weigh options with regard to the merits and demerits of identity chip use on human from credible scholars to offer a substantial discussion that will help make informed decision for or against the idea. It is the ability to strike a balance between the convenience provided by identity chips and the protection of fundamental human rights that will be critical in deciding for or against their popular acceptance. In a recent report on the New York Times article "Implantable Identity Chips: The Next Frontier of Personal Technology", Michael M. Grynbaum a media correspondent for the New York Times confirmed that proponents of identity chips emphasizes on their ability to streamline medical procedure and improve convenience in the identification process (Michael, 2013). Based on such a report, it is open that identity chips use on humans is a technology-based initiative that comes along with the convenience of effective and speedy human operations. While paying close attention on their applicability in medical procedures, identity chips streamline such procedures through improved convenience in the identification process implying that one’s health report can become accessed with ease enhancing control and treatment measures. To this effect, one can confirm that using identity chips on humans can offer rapid access to critical medical information during emergencies thus speeding up the life-saving actions. The ability of identity chips to speedup medical actions by providing quick access to important patient information at all times is also well supported by Narmadha among other four knowledgeable scholars in Science and Technological Engineering (Narmadha et al., 2022). In their article “Performance of implantable antenna at ISM band characteristics for biomedical base” Narmadha et al. (2022), these authors argue for identity chips use on humans citing that these implantable antennas are operated in various ranges as well as radio frequency application thus assuring substantial growth in patients’ health and their general life. Since these implantable antennas make the communication between the doctors and the patients easy, performance of treatment also becomes enhanced regardless of the patient’s condition. It is imperative to note that identity chips are capable of holding huge and substantial personal information that can become accessed by the target user if need be. In such a case, such information can be of great relevance in regard to analyzing a person’s health history especially if the information therein specify on areas of allergies incase the victim is unconscious thus cannot speak on their behalf. It is also open that health-related information within such chips can help the doctor with clear insights on very informed health approaches decisions while handling the patient without much struggle thus saving time, resources and lives in most cases. Other that enhancing operational efficiency in medical procedures, identical chips also enhances other human operations limiting unnecessary frauds associated with physical appearances especially in money transfers. Based on an article compiled by Aubert titled “RFID Technology for Human Implant Devices Technologies” it is clear that there is the need to strike a balance between the merits and demerits of using identity chips on humans...
