Abstract

Application of Cooperative Federalism in Solving Income Inequality in the US. I would prefer cooperative federalism which occurs when the national government and the state government portion powers, agree, and select the ones that suit the country the most (Lewis, 2019). Cooperative federalism maintains a balance in the government to ensure that there is no abuse of power. Cooperative federalism is beneficial because it provides a country with a chance to apply for grant funds. Funds from the local government are at times insufficient to cater to the intended programs. Therefore, a state can receive formula, project grants, and block grants. Cooperative federalism promotes conservation and preservation since it implements environmental programs. The government implements programs that reduce pollution and that aid in the preservation of natural resources. Nevertheless, cooperative federalism has several shortcomings. States that fail to adopt federal government policies receive fewer funds compared to other states. This approach may be viewed as unfair because people believe in the fair and just distribution of state funds (Lewis, 2019). There are a lot of disagreements between the state and the federal government. Cooperative federalism, therefore, limits the power of the state and the federal government. In this type of federalism, limitation of powers is prone to occur because of laws and regulations that are implemented. Cooperative federalism can be applied to solving the problem of income inequality in the United States. The state and the federal government can first increase the minimum wage. Secondly, they can expand the earned income tax since it supports people living in poverty. The state and the federal government can implement programs for the support building of assets for working families (Ribeiro and Moreira, 2017). The government can make the tax code more progressive.
