International trade has existed for centuries and globalization of the economic has taken a sweeping transformation and through this companies realize their full commercial potential. Firms have realized the importance of competing outside their home countries in business which puts the world economic in a dynamic state. Global marketing focuses on the global opportunities and threats and firms compete to create a superior customer value on global basis (Keegan et al., 2020, p. 28). The European Union is a global player in international trade and discussing its impact on the world economy is significant in showing that the global market has turned local in the past 20 years. This paper analyzes the European Union and the major change of the world organization as globalization. It also discusses the global marketing concept of competitive advantage and its effects on the European Union and the world economy. One of the major changes of the world economy is globalization. The availability of essential commodities distributed across the globe depicts the major economic transformation of many countries. The globalization of major industries and companies shows how many markets have become local. Companies have shown anticipation to go global to increase their sales and competition for better goods and services. For instance, companies such as Samsung, Apple, Facebook, and Amazon are evident around the global and are definitive in the world economy. The world markets have experienced enormous changes due to globalization. Trade and investment have surpassed borders and the global markets have had to develop strategies to respond to the agility of the marketplace. Due to globalization of the market place consumers can now enjoy a large scope of products and services increasing the needs for competition. The expansion of the global trade and focus on value chains raise question on how trade and the environment are interconnected with each other. Trade significantly impacts the environment and climate change is a global player pressing and more evident around the globe today. The overriding environmental challenges imposed by global players are visible. For instance, the European Union is a significant player in the global market and has a competitive advantage. Globalization has fostered sustainable competitive advantage across countries. The world is under pressure and challenge due to competition and to capture ideal value chains, trade unions are formulating the best strategies to remain relevant each day in the global market. Globalization has made firms compete in terms of expertise, innovation, speed and efficiency, and flexible supply chains. Globalization has made firms improve their competitive advantage on their brands, customer loyalty, and quality products and services. The European Union is a dominant player in the global market but it is facing adverse competition in a global scale from countries such as India and China. One marketing strategy amicable in the global trade environment and the trade environment of the European Union when a company is considering to expand globally is competitive advantage. For many years, companies are striving to leverage competition through value proposition. Competitive advantage drives better sales and profit. It entails a vast scope of information in understanding consumer behavior embracing the social, cultural, and economic factors. Technological advancements foster competitive advantage by weakening geographical barriers improving communication, sharing of information, and transportation of commodities efficiently. The benefit of the single currency (euro) has given the EU an opportunity to trade and invest in a global arena due to the transparency of the prices.
