Barash The article discusses the argument of executions as punishment does not reduce murder even after it was set in motion by Trump administration. After 17 years deferral, Trump administration introduced executions where three more federal prisoners are set to be executed before the end of his ruling (David, 2021). The objective of these executions is presumed to be enacting justice to victims of the most dreadful crimes. The historical perspective views capital punishment as way communities used to get rid of troublemakers. In modern world, government use execution to eliminate dangerous people, seek justice, the power of state and to dishearten others from committing crimes (David, 2021). However, research proves that execution does not slow down the rate of killings. Take for instance the situation of Singapore and Hong Kong with varying economic and demographic features. Hong Kong abolished execution but Singapore is still implementing it, however, the crime rates in these cities are still the same. It is easy to assume that executing federal inmates can reduce murder incidence and bring justice to the victims which is not always the case. Yes the execution is important because it eliminates the criminals for good and they will never get the chance to kill innocent people but this does not mean other people will not do the same. People kill for different reasons such as battling with mental disorder, depression, while stealing and just for the fun of it. The implication of these reasons means execution will only scare a few murderers but the rest will not stop out of fear of execution being the ultimate punishment. Reducing murder should start from the system that provide preventive measures such as provision of job opportunities, progressive policies, and gun control, treat male and female crimes as equal.
