Abstract
A sport skill evaluation is challenging because sports skills are dynamic and vary in intensity, duration, and trajectory. Therefore, objectively measuring accuracy and efficacy is difficult (Giles et al., 2020). The main objective of this post is to expound on the rationale for evaluating sports skills. The post also explains when to use the subjective or objective rating scale design. Sport skill assessment comprises checking the ability of a player to maintain balance, high speed, and the ability to use senses while playing. Sport evaluators rely on subjective evaluations in assessing sports skills. Subjective evaluations entail categorical scales that test a player's jumping and speed abilities. Subjective evaluations also apply the interval scales An example of a subjective rating scale primarily applies to the interval rating scale designed for agility testing. The athlete is rated from poor to excellent based on their performance times (Giles et al., 2020). The scale also provides a number for comparison of performance across athletes or even over time. In addition, the measurements obtained from this scale are a valid indicator of the athlete's agility. An example of an objective rating applies a categorical rating scale designed for speed testing. The sport evaluators rank the players between poor and excellent based on their top-end speed, for instance, 4 meters per second. The categorical rating scale also provides a number that one can use to compare performances across athletes and over time (Giles et al., 2020). Further, the measurements obtained from this scale show the athlete's speed since they result from their actual physical ability, which is the distance covered in one second.
