Abstract
Institutional Affiliations: Effects of Having an Unhealthy Diet An unhealthy diet can be defined as any diet that does not provide the body with the correct types and amounts of nutrients to enhance maximum health. It is evident that healthy foods like green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, and raw nuts, among others, are very high in energy contents making a human body remain energetic upon consumption. On the other hand, overeating milky products, highly flavored food, sweet foods, and fatty/greasy foods define the origin of unhealthy diets within a human body. Unhealthy diets are very low in energy and high in fat content, leading to health complications among the victims. For this reason, this essay will offer a detailed analysis of the major effects of having an unhealthy diet. Too much fat in the body is unhealthy. It leads to obesity, overweight, high blood pressure, heart diseases and stroke, diabetes, and some cancers, which define the relevance of this analysis in enlightening people on the need to avoid an unhealthy diet. An unhealthy diet defines poor nutrition within the body, impairs an individual’s daily health and well-being (Fransen et al., 2017). Since unhealthy diets are low in energy and high in fat contents, they reduce the body's ability to lead an active life. Overweight, attributed to higher fatty contents within the body, leads to tiredness, limiting body capacity to work in the short run. However, in the long run, too many fats within the body lead to obese which is among the major source of many people’s terminal health problems ranging from hypertension, depression, some cancers, among other terminal health disorders that claim many people’s lives in the long run (Behrens et al., 2018). Inadequate consumption of fruits and vegetables, especially amongst the low and middle-income-generating population, is attributed to the availability of cheap soft drinks and fast foods highly concentrated with sugars and fats.
