Abstract

[Name] Introduction Today, domestic violence has become a common practice among many couples and families. Those who were a victim of domestic violence had a lot of family issues; they were therefore not in good terms with each other. Domesti violence is not necessarily caused by men like a lot of people would have thought. In fact, women have emerged to be the major contributors of domestic violence. According to several studies and researches that included observing family members, women caused domestic violence when they started being distrustful of their husbands. Their intensions in this case were driven by the fact that they wanted to fight back the betrayal from their husbands. Similarly, men also contributed greatly to domestic violence, they did so while bearing in mind that women were inferior when compared to them. For this reason therefore, they caused domestic violence to either intimidate their women or rather show women that they were the overall head of the family. In this discussion, the paper will pay focus to two interesting films, Anne Hall and War of Roses. The two films have extensively demonstrated instances of domestic violence and the main causes of domestic violence in many families. Outline of the Topic Domestic violence has found many names such as family violence, domestic abuse, spousal abuse, intimate partner violence, and battering. Whatever the name, domestic violence refers to a pattern of behaviors which causes violence or abuse to another person basically in a domestic context such as in a marriage. Domestic violence usually starts when a marriage partner begins to feel important at the expense of his or her partner. In this case, the partner finds the need to have full control over the other partner. The causes of this feeling may be as a result of extreme jealous, uncontrolled anger, low self esteem and other intense emotions. Some traditional beliefs in many societies have made men to feel that they have what it takes to control women; this has significantly contributed to domestic violence. When people start feeling that they are inferior to their partner as a result of educational background or socioeconomically, they have also become victims of domestic violence. Alcohol and other drug substances can lead to violent behaviors. Individuals who are under the influence of alcohol will be less likely to control themselves. For this reason, these individuals are prone to cause violence even with the slightest mockery from their partners. In most cases, men and women who wanted to cause violence in their homes consumed a lot of alcohol. The individuals were rest assured that it was easy for them to cause violence when they were under the influence of alcohol. Domestic violence usually happens as a result of the abuser thinking or believing that the abuse or the violence he is causing is acceptable or justifiable. The violence occurs in many forms, it can either be emotional, physical, verbal, sexual abuse or economic. Those who exercise domestic violence must have obtained this vice as a result of prior experience in doing the same. Abusers who were violent at marriage learnt the behavior from society members, family, friends, or fromm culture influences as they grew up in the society. The abusers may have become the product of the same through experience; it may happen that a partner was being mistreated at an earlier marriage that culminated to divorce. Sometime later, the partner might become engaged to a new partner; it is during the new engagement when he or she might opt to avenge for what she experienced in a later marriage. Anyone out there can be a victim of domestic violence. However, worldwide, females’ partners are the most affected by domestic violence. Awareness, perception, definition, and beliefs in domestic violence differ greatly across various societies’ communities, and countries. Domestic violence is highly discouraged in the modern society, it is for the reason that it can lead to death, emotional breakdown, suicide, divorce or other awful decision to the involved individual. Those affected are urged to report to relevant authorities. Though women from developed countries have given in to this call, women from other societies have feared to do so as a result of the pressure that comes from societal believes. According to these societies, women are supposed to respect their husbands even if they are subjected to harassment and torture. Instances from the Film that Illustrates [Author] During creation of relationships, the involved partners greatly appreciate each other. Partners spend happy moments together such as going out for parties, picnics and the like. Couples are also involved in active sex intercourse depicting their intimate relationship and warmness toward each other. During this time also, couples happily shares their past memories with a lot of enthusiasm showing how much they appreciate one another. There is also commitment in regard to supporting each other’s opinion and decision making. The strong wave of love revolving around couples engaged in creation of relationships culminates to marriage. Anne Hall film is a good example that depicts a relationship between newly engaged couples. After Alvy meets Annie when playing tennis doubles, their life afterwards is defined by intense happiness between them. The two of them are seen having a lot of fun during their dates. For instance, there is a lot of laughter in one time when they are fun making a meal of lobster in a local restaurant. Alvy shares his past about her former girl friends, he is also seen teasing Annie about the unusual men she had in her past. The two are also seen having a ride together and later having a glass of wine in a reputable club. At the end of it, their intimacy is shown when they deeply kiss each other and end up in love making. Alvy supports Annie’s decision as a singer in a night club. These instances in Anne Hall film confirm the assertion that during creation of relationships, the involved couples will participate in an intimate relationship that means the whole world to each one of them. However, domestic violence is highly unfair for the fact that it usually succeeds in bringing down this great relationships. In fact, it...
