Civil right and Civil Liberty

Abstract

Civil rights refer to the rights that all people of America are entitled to, regardless of their race or color (Citron, 2018). Therefore, civil rights form the legal provisions of equality for humans and mostly deal with legal protection. On the other hand, civil liberty is a person's personal freedom, and the Bill of Rights protects that all Americans are assured of civil liberties provided by the Constitution. The primary example of civil rights is the right to vote. A citizen cannot be denied the right to vote for any person they wish to vote for in society. The voting right was passed on February 1869 (Citron, 2018). African American men were first given the right to vote in the 1870s, during the 15th amendment. The voting rights act of 1965 was passed by the supreme court, allowing all Americans to vote freely. Everybody has the right to express themselves¸ Freedom of speech and expression is a major example of civil liberty. Additionally, one can hold, receive and share information without restrictions or frontiers (Citron, 2018). The right to speech right is protected by the Constitution, where congress cannot make a law prohibiting speech and expression. The Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment achieved the right to speech. The right of a person to address themselves was first implemented in 1791.
