Abstract
BMGT Week 8: Self-Reflection (Rough Draft) To: Dwight and Ike From: Subject: Managerial Skills of Relevance Communication Skill is relevant in defining a potential manager (Reddy, 2020). Effective communication proves to be a tremendous two-way exercise that allows both parties to express themselves and pass their messages as intended. Therefore, a manager must express abilities in defined communication skills and readiness to enhance effective communication while engaging other workers at all times. It is imperative to note that effective communication serves as a vital tool that enhances relationships between managers and employees (Moss, 2018). For this reason, having defined abilities to communicate comes along with defined abilities to listen, which express values and respect for the communicating parties. A manager whose listening skills are practical can understand all employees' concerns as ample time is given to each employee to express their burning issues, making this skill the most important in any manager. To succeed in the wheelchair industry, Easy Chair must have managers whose communications skills are defined. Success in either local or global markets calls for the collaboration of leaders and employees to work for common goals, which can become achieved through effective communication. Since effective communication enhances leader-team relationships, having defined communication skills will allow Easy Chair manager to enjoy strong relationships with local and global employees. In return, such relationships will enhance the realization of the set organizational goals as loyalty and trust from the employees will be the minor worries for such a manager. Communication/listening skills remain the most critical skill the Easy Chair manager must embrace and exercise at all times. The second skill that managers need to express is the ability to build relationships using emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence can be defined as an individual's ability to understand different cultures based on the factors that determine each group and deal with each category of culture without expressing any biasness or discrimination (Davis, 2019). For this reason, having defined emotional intelligence defines managers’ potentials to understand a diversified workforce, which in return enhances the realization of respect for each individual’s beliefs, ideals among other things. Such an argument defines the connection between emotional intelligence and building relationships. However, a manager can express emotional intelligence through a manager’s ability to hone his/her emotional IQ to a level that allows for relationship building and motivational purposes and enhances communication, which in return defines practical negotiation abilities (Kelly and Kaminskiene, 2016). A manager who has defined cultural awareness can effectively relate to such cultures, allowing each party to feel valued, thus working for a common goal in any working environment. Such arguments define the necessity of emotional intelligence considerations in building skills as a potential skill that a successful manager must express and exercise in any working environment. Considering Easy Chair, defined emotional intelligence is essential in enhancing strong relationships with the diversified workforce. In the week 6 case scenario, due to limited emotional intelligence, Sarah could not communicate and negotiate with the Japanese family for the Easy Chair Chance to operate from one of their buildings. To this effect, the need for defined emotional intelligence is the key to enhancing effective communication with the growing Japanese and South-Korean population of workers that Easy Chair expects to engage with on their new markets. Failure to express defined abilities in emotional intelligence will not only lead to poor relationships with the anticipated South-Korean and Japanese employees. Still, it might also lead to Easy Chair's downfall since working for common goals will remain hindered. In case of introduction/implementation of any change, the need for transparency is essential as it will allow workers to express their inner feelings; thus, adjustments on the expected changes become effected to avoid unnecessary resistance. Through communication, a manager can understand how best to handle each worker thus becomes trusted at all times by employees, which in return improves their attitude towards the organization. Building trust, which is defined through people management, is the third skill that I believe managers must have express abilities to enhance their organizations' success in the current competitive markets. Trust building is enhanced through transparency, honesty, and effective communication between the manager and the teams (Reddy, 2020). Lack of communication and dishonesty serves as significant contributors to trust issues in most workplaces. Such issues later negatively affect workforce morale and performance, thus hindering the set short-term and long-term organizational goals. For this reason, a manager’s ability to win employees' trust and loyalty define his/her chances to succeed in the set organizational goals. A manager's communication skill once again remains a potential determinant in expressing our third most relevant managerial skill, "building trust" (Moss, 2018). A manager must express effective communication skills to allow for his/her democratic characteristic to remain defined in the teams' hearts. With a defined manager-team relationship, relevant parties will automatically realize trust; thus, loyalty remains their guide. Considering the Easy Chair situation, embracing this skill is the key to enhancing the effective relationship with the growing workforce. Trust building proves to be a demanding task, having noted that the physical interactions with the online workers and customers might not be practical. For this reason, an Easy Chair manager must enhance effective communication at all times and ensure workers are given a chance to express themselves and be listened to at all times for their value in the organization to remain defined. The fourth skill that I feel is most relevant is the ability to make a decision. Decision-making proves to be among the most challenging tasks that managers engage in during their term in office. The fact that decision-making is a process that may have adverse effects on the workforce and the organization as a whole defines the origin of complexities associated with this process (Norton, 2000). For this reason, a manager must express defined abilities to make the right decision regardless of the situation the manager is exposed to while working. I attribute this skill's relevance to the fact that the decision-making process involves a manager's potentials to analyze and evaluate a situation/concern before making the final judgment. Having limited decision-making abilities hinders a manager’s ability to make the proper decision attributed to fears and favors, among other self-interest factors, thus compromising the decision-making process's intended results (Norton, 2000). Considering Easy Chair ventures into the global wheelchair industry, a manager cannot ignore this skill's need. To succeed in the newly captured global markets, the Easy Chair manager must express defined abilities to make the right decision and enhance the process of realizing effective decisions amongst all parties involved. Among the most burning issues currently is the ability for an Easy Chair manager to define the best approach to engage in for a change in the traditional hiring culture to incorporate diversified talents. Such a process demands excellent knowledge to ensure that the Easy Chair's current workforce does not feel de-valued. Other issues like success in dealing with a diversified workforce, employment of technology on Easy Chair operation to enhance online operations, among others, also calls for defined skills to succeed, thus explaining the relevance of this fourth managerial skill for the betterment of Easy Chair. Finally, customer-driven innovation is a skill that is best defined...
