The Arduous Journey of a Criminal Justice Student Seeking Academic Scholarship

Abstract

Seeking Academic Scholarship I am an ongoing student majoring in criminal justice. I am halfway done with this degree and really proud of this achievement regardless the countless obstacles I have encountered along the way ranging from financial to psychological. I chose this area of study because it relates with people in search of justice and help to enjoy back their lives. With a career goal of becoming a probation officer, I believe that I will be able to meet and interview probationers and their families to understand their experiences and evaluate the best remedies to address their noted concerns. I wish to reconcile offenders with the general society, their families and themselves through reformation approaches like recommendations on the most effective rehabilitations, counselling, treatments and support groups. I believe that offenders are humans who deserve a second chance through proper approaches that can bring back their worth. Helping them reform is my motive and humble wish as this will help them become productive in life and enhance peace within their families and society at large. However, such a dream remains unachievable without a scholarship to facilitate my smooth learning which has proved a challenge especially for the past quarters. I attribute my poor grades in the past quarters to my devotion in career life to facilitate my education bills and family bills limiting my engagement with academics. I am the oldest in a family of four. My mother is a single parent without a job. Therefore, I have to work for my own education and to facilitate family bills as my siblings’ looks upon me for help.
