Purpose of the Second Draft Essay Structure Thesis Statement The second draft is an opportunity to add, remove, or reorganize content to better support the essay's thesis and overall argument.  Strengthening Arguments: This stage allows for deepening analysis, providing more evidence, and ensuring a logical flow of ideas.  Clarity and Coherence: The second draft focuses on improving the clarity of the writing, making sure the essay is easy to understand and follow.  Style and Tone: The second draft allows for polishing the writing style, ensuring consistency, and refining the tone to suit the academic context.  Grammar and Mechanics: While the first draft may have focused on getting ideas down, the second draft allows for careful proofreading and editing for grammatical errors, punctuation, and spelling.  MLA Formatting: The second draft is also the stage to ensure the essay adheres to all MLA formatting guidelines, such as proper citation style, margins, spacing, and heading formats The 5 paragraph essay is an important element to college level writing. The following are points that you should make note of and include in the formulation of your essays in English 1301: 1. Introduction:  Hook: A captivating opening sentence or two to grab the reader's attention. Background Information: Briefly introduce the topic and provide necessary context. Thesis Statement: The central argument or main point of the essay, usually the final sentence of the introduction. It should be clear, specific, and arguable (not a simple fact). It often outlines the main points that will be discussed in the body paragraphs.  2. Body Paragraphs (3):  Each body paragraph focuses on a single main idea that supports the thesis statement. Topic Sentence: Starts each body paragraph and introduces the main point of that specific paragraph. Supporting Details: Provide evidence, examples, facts, or reasoning to support the topic sentence. Transitions: Smoothly move from one paragraph to the next, linking ideas logically.  3. Conclusion:  Restated Thesis: Rephrase the thesis statement in different words to summarize the main argument. Summary of Main Points: Briefly recap the key ideas discussed in the body paragraphs. Closing Thought: Provide a final perspective, a call to action (if applicable), or a thought-provoking statement to leave a lasting impression.  In essence, the five-paragraph essay structure is as follows:  Introduction: Hook, background, thesis.
