Abstract
Sex Education Sex education is considered an embarrassing and conservative topic in our schools and society. I first learned about sex through school, friends, and media. Social media is a very open platform where people talk about sex freely. As peers, we often found ourselves discussing sex and confiding in each other about the issue. In my school, condoms were available and distributed freely by institutions and programs. The school policies and the local authorities of my locality fully supported the program for condom distribution in its jurisdiction. The Condom Distribution Programs distribute condoms to school nurse offices and school health centers. Distribution of free condoms is necessary to reduce the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancies, and HIV &Aids. Teenagers today are more exposed to information from various forms of entertainment and social media. Shows like Gossip Girl and Sex Education provide insight on healthy relationships, and the prevention of STIs and make sex a comfortable topic to talk about. These shows create a conversation and comprehensive discussion on sex which can positively impact a child. Sex education is an important topic to a child and in the future, as a parent, I will tell my kids about sex. Sex is no longer conservative and kids get information from various sources. Sex education will make kids make healthy choices as they grow up. TV, social media, and music have different perceptions about sex and it will be ideal for a parent to reinforce ideal education to their children. It is also necessary to start early and often to help the kids contextualize, it doesn’t have to be all in one conversation but a usual context.
