Abstract

PUB 415 ONE HEALTH CASE STUDY Parallels Between COVID-19 and the Spanish flu Comparisons and Considerations Assignment Guidelines Assignment Description: The case study assignment is intended to challenge students to consider the social, political, environmental, and physical factors that facilitate the spread of disease. The assignment requires students to use One Health One Medicine concepts to assess, compare, and contrast the Spanish Flu and COVID-19 pandemics. The assignment consists of 5 open-ended response questions. Each question has been assigned a specific point value. Assignments will be graded based on critical thinking and reflection, accuracy, appropriate use of peer-reviewed literature and resources, as well as adherence to formatting and word count. Instructions: The case study will require students to provide an overview and brief history of two separate pandemics. Students are expected to learn as much about each pandemic as possible to complete the assignment. As such, students are expected to conduct a brief literature search prior to beginning the assignment to: Further their understanding of the Spanish Flu. Further their understanding of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Identify the historical, social, and political contexts in which both diseases were identified and spread. Using the references identified, students will respond to each question accordingly. Responses should consist of complete sentences, be in paragraph format, meet the stated length requirements, be double spaced, and follow APA formatting guidelines. A minimum of 10 peer-reviewed references are required for the present assignment. Points will be deducted for every missing reference. Assignment Format: Please include a cover page (1 page), your answer pages, and a reference page (at least 10 references). Your answer pages should include a section title, or the question as written on the assignment, above/before your response begins. Be sure to follow APA formatting guidelines. Submission Guidelines: The Case Study Assignment is to be submitted no later than October 22 by 11:59 PM (EST). Absolutely no late submissions will be accepted, and no make-ups will be allowed. Plagiarism and Academic Dishonesty: While students are required and encouraged to utilize peer-reviewed resources, they are required to complete the assignment individually. Collaborating with peers will be considered academic dishonesty and reported to the office of student conduct and academic integrity. A student will have committed plagiarism if he or she reproduces someone else’s work without acknowledging its source. This includes making simple changes to borrowed materials while leaving the organization, content, or phraseology intact. Failing to include accurate references, both in a reference list and in-text, acknowledging original sources also constitutes plagiarism.
