Abstract

Foreign Exchange Student Mobility: Challenges Faced by Student’s Studying Abroad. Introduction Student mobility is a growing concern in the education sector globally. Studying abroad is the most exciting chapter every student wishes. Foreign exchange programs allow students to study in different countries, thereby experiencing different environments, world-class education, culture, and history (Doerr 84). It is an important program since students develop a global perspective in which they interact, meet new friends, and develop their lives. However, there is a gap in research in foreign exchange student mobility, and the unaddressed gap prompts the salient challenges students studying abroad are succumbing. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between foreign exchange students’ challenges and their performance. Scope of the study According to (Fligstein et al. 106), student exchange programs increased after World War II to enhance cultural integration, social horizons, and language skills. The United States has the largest international student population in the world. This research will integrate foreign exchange student mobility findings in the United States. In 2019-2020, approximately 1,075,496 foreign-born students were enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities, representing 4.6% of the total U.S. student population (Ayala). The students come from over 200 countries. Research Question The research question for this study is; What is the relationship between foreign exchange students’ challenges and their academic performance? Research Methodology. The research methods used to answer the research questions are interviews and secondary data analysis. Problem Statement International students inject huge cash into the American economy since they pay rent, buy food, and incur transport costs. Studying abroad provides a prestigious opportunity for various students to exploit and harness the best.
