Abstract

Module Two Reflection Journal: Chicago’s Violence What’s Behind the Surge in Chicago’s Violence? I can confirm that I agree with most of the conclusions made in the article and in the video about Chicago’s violence problem. Unequal treatment especially in criminal justice system attributed to race is not news in the United States of America most especially in Chicago. While analyzing unequal treatment experienced by most African American in the hands of Chicago law enforcers, it is open that such exposures would lead to high rates of criminal activities with homicide being among the most viable options. Based on the article, the release of the video showing a white police officer fatally shooting an African American teen “Laquan McDonald” played a significant role in enhancing homicide crimes among other crimes within Chicago. While it is open that the police would have been in his line of duty, the nature of fatally shooting a black ten for more than ten times proved an inequality worth fighting for in the form of engaging in other crimes to irritate the police. Due to the noted and long-witnessed racial segregation of the people of color, one can relate such a fatal shooting to exercise of unequal treat to the inferior color to prove superiority of white supremacy in all areas of American lives. There are other blacks that have died in the hands of white cops through chokeholds like Eric Garner and George Floyd among others which defines legality gender based inequalities conclusions argued in the article linking it to a potential cause of rising criminal cases within Chicago. In the video, it is open that Chicago’s violence rates by 2015 hiked to levels not seen since 1990. I feel contented to agree with some of its conclusions on the causes of high rates of violence within this area. While refuting the potentials of gung warfare as a potential trigger to high levels of violence within Chicago I am certain that such conclusions might become biased based on the racially coined stereotypes that define some African American groups even while members join for a good course.
