Abstract
SPORTS: SPEED ENDURANCE PERFORMANCE; I aim to improve my 10k endurance speed. I plan to measure variables such as; the stride cadence and the stride length. The Stride cadence is the number of strides taken per second, while stride length is the distance travelled by each stride. My speed will be represented mathematically, for instance, Distance/Time. My speed endurance will be measured using the 40 Yard Sprint Test (Johnson, 2007) and the Running Economy (steady-state oxygen consumption (VO2) at a given running velocity). Running economy is a complex, multifactorial concept representing the sum of various metabolic, cardiorespiratory, biomechanical and neuromuscular characteristics during submaximal running (Barnes 2015). PLAN; I will first start with the 40 Yard Sprint test to ascertain my acceleration and speed. To improve my speed endurance, I will count the number of strides, pick up my pace, run more often, and practice hill training. I will then focus on my Running Economy (RE) to ascertain energy demand, velocity, and speed endurance. I will use mental tools such as Goal setting and Imagery in keeping the mind focused. The goals are to ensure, I achieve my 40 Yard Sprint Test to enhance endurance. According to (Jeong et al., 2021), goal setting is the most frequently used mental tool in sports and is associated with improvement of athletic performance for both beginner and expert athletes. Imagery improves reaction time in elite sprinters improving overall performance on speed, time, and ranking (Iftikhar et al., 2018).
