Alley Theatre
Alley Theatre has a long history that runs way back from the late 1940s. It is a theatre that registered as a company on February 8, 1949. After almost twenty years of performances without their own space, Alley Theatre began construction of its new theatre on August 10, 1966. The construction of this new theatre took two years and two months, with its official opening celebrated on October 13, 1968 (Bridges, 2021). For this reason, Alley Theatre performances take place inside the new theatre, which has lead to the massive glory of this oldest professional theatre company in Texas. It is essential to note that Alley Theatre serves as the third oldest theatre in the United States, having over 70 years of existence.
Alley Theatre is not an amateur but rather among the oldest nonprofit, professional resident theater companies which have been in continuous operation in the United States since the late 1940s. It is a theatre that produces a wide range of repertoire and innovative productions of neglected modern plays, classics, premieres, and new developments from Alleys' new play initiatives. Alleys' success becomes defined by this theatre's professional artistic director, who makes sure that each production carries and passes over its value to the target audiences. Rob Melrose serves as Alley Theatre Artistic Director, whose significant works involve directing the production of The Winter Tale, 1984, and Agatha Christies Murder on the Orient Express (Bridges, 2021).
