Abstract

Week 10 Pivotal Document: New York City Police Departments Report Active Shooter: Recommendations and Analysis for Risk Mitigation (2012) This week’s reading shifted from the normal triggers of school shooting to the response of law enforcement on such type of shooting. Based on such an approach, the weekly mass shooting of choice was Uvalde School shooting as this shooting offer great critic on slow response of law enforcement in time of need. It is due to their delayed response on this attack that leads the attacker to injure and kill his targets in an attack that took 77 minutes. In the video “Inside the Uvalde Response”, it is open that the law enforcement did not make to stop the attack at Robb elementary school on time. It took them 77 minutes to get to where the shooter was and over two years later they have not managed to give a conclusive report on what happened during the attack (02:00-59). To this effect, there is the need to analyze the “New York City Police Departments Report Active Shooter: Recommendations and Analysis for Risk Mitigation of 2012” to understand what need to be improved to enable effective response from law enforcement to school shootings (pg, 266). The New York City Police Department's (NYPD) report titled "Active Shooter: Recommendations and Analysis for Risk Mitigation" (2012) is a great report that addresses the critical need for effective law enforcement responses to active shooter situations, particularly in schools. It is a report that was developed in the wake of several high-profile school shootings, prompting a reevaluation of law enforcement strategies and readiness. It recognizes the need for improved protocols to mitigate risks during active shooter incidents as the one that was witnessed during Uvalde shooting.
