Exploring Biopsychosocial and Biomedical Models in Health Research

HEALTH PSYC chapter 3 and 4 WEEK 4 discussion: biopsychosocial and biological models This week, we have focused on two very important models of health – the biopsychosocial model and the biomedical model. After briefly defining both models, select one to look at in more detail. Next, find a recent research article where the model you selected is demonstrated in the research. For example, if you selected the biomedical model you might select a disease such as Alzheimer’s to look at more closely. Please share at least 2 new things you learned about the disease from a recent article you should find. For example, here is an article discussing the use of animal models in researching Alzheimer’s disease. Two points I would discuss further based on the article would be 1) specific changes in proteins in the brain and 2) gene targeting. If you choose the biopsychosocial model, you could select an article such as this one about stress management techniques improving health. The two points I could include would be 1) Religion and nature are two common coping methods for help with stress and 2) cardiovascular disease is positively impacted by the concept of self-distancing.
