Virtual teams offer advantages that could benefit the organizations and the employees but pose disadvantages to the organization. In today’s digital environment, using virtual teams offers organizations greater access to talent and skills by eliminating geographical barriers during recruitment. The technology reduces the costs of holding regular meetings to update the members of teams on the progress the group has made. Through virtual teams, companies can scale their operations more easily and at significantly lower costs to the shareholders (Bagga et al., 2023). The digital tool increases flexibility and allows more freedom for the employees working remotely in virtual teams. On the other hand, remote workplaces face challenges enforcing an organizational culture that aligns with the expected behavior in the workplace. They are costly and it is harder for managers to monitor the employees while they are working remotely. Virtual teams offer numerous advantages that increase productivity, flexibility, and efficiency in the workplace despite posing challenges in the development of culture, increased costs, and managing people in the organization. Advantages of Virtual Teams in Today’s Digital Environment The digital environment has offered organizations access to a greater pool of potential skilled individuals to handle tasks in the workplace. Virtual teams enable organizations to tap into a wider pool of candidates and recruit talent from anywhere in the world. When recruiting candidates for tasks that can be performed virtually, organizations are not limited to people who have geographical access to the facility.
