Two major things political culture and federalism in Texas
Two major things political culture and federalism in Texas. Regarding the political culture of the state, what I noted is that the political culture is rather diverse and it can be said to be made of two perspectives which include individualistic and traditional political perspectives. What is impressed me is the accrued ability of the state to maintain a political culture environment that uniquely identifies the state from others and ability to have multiple political culture within the same system. Though it can be viewed in different approaches, the individualistic political culture of the state serves and acts as a legacy to the western Fortier heritage by celebrating individual achievement of Texas citizens. The traditionalistic political culture finds its roots form the 19th century Southerners who migrated to East Texas. What is rather interesting is the extent in which government activities are allowed in the two political culture. For the case of individualistic political culture, government activity is only encouraged on in a situation where it creates opportunities for the accrued individual achievements. On the other hand, traditionalistic political culture, government activity is largely discouraged unless it is a situation where the activity encourages or reinforces the society’s dominant groups power. I noted that it is these two political cultures that make Texas a politically conservative state, which is hostile to the government especially when the government is interfering with the people’s economy. The people Texas extensively demand that the government should stay out their affairs and, in a situation, where it gets involved, it should be controlled locally. In this case, the government should tax little and spend little thus individual businesses have a say in controlling their fate. Another impressive thing that I noted is the political mix of the state.
